ISOUTHWEST HARBOR — Scott M. Phelps, died Oct. 11, 2014, surrounded by family and friends in Bangor. He was born Oct. 5, 1969, in Chicago, the son of George and Ginger Phelps and Wilma Nagorniuk. He was a brother to John Phelps, Rob Phelps, Donny Elston and Mark Nagorniuk.
Scott lived the majority of his life in Maine. He spent his childhood organizing pickup games and creating mischief and fun as only he could. He attended John Bapst Memorial High School, where he was a three-sport standout plus a 1,000-point scorer. He continued his basketball career at the University of Maine, Machias. Scott married the love of his life, Margie, on Nov. 21, 1992. They were blessed with four wonderful children, Megan, Jonathan, Sarah and Andrew. He dedicated his life to his community, especially the children of it. He was a beloved coach, mentor, friend and father who will be sorely missed by those who knew him.
A celebration of Scott’s life will be held 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014, at the Mount Desert Island High School, Bar Harbor. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Scott’s memory may be made to the Phelps Children College Fund, c/o The First, 102 Main St., Bar Harbor, ME 04609.
