Ruth Kittredge Roberts went very peacefully at Birch Bay Village in Bar Harbor, on Feb. 7. She was 91 years young.
She spent most of her life in Windsor and Branford, Conn., on Indian Neck. She worked at Conning and Company in Hartford, Conn., for several years, working as an assistant in the cage selling over-the-counter stocks connected to the New York Stock Exchange. After leaving there she spent the rest of her working career at The Hartford Insurance Co. in the brokerage part of the company. She loved working there. She talked about what a great job it was many times, and the people she worked with.
After she retired she moved back and forth from Southwest Harbor to West Hartford, Conn., and finally settling in at Birch Bay.
She is survived by her daughter Marianne Roberts Wellington and husband, John, two grandchildren, Edwin (Ned) Ames and wife Francis in Norristown, Pa., and Janet Guptill and her partner Cynthia of Hendersonville, N.C., two step-grandchildren, Julie Valaitis and husband, Joe, of Bozeman, Mont., and Jay Wellington of Londonderry, N.H., two step-great-grandchildren Morgan Valaitis and fiancé Dave of Middletown, Conn., and Mitch Valaitis of Bozeman, Mont., several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her longtime best friend over all the years since young school days in Vinalhaven, Pricilla (Hulla) Rosen of Vinalhaven.
She was predeceased by her mother, Hazel Kittredge, her father, Edwin (Ned) Kittredge, and a brother, Keith Kittredge.
A service will be held at 4 Wellington Lane for friends and family on July 5, where her niece Pamela Kittredge who is a minister, will be officiating. Interment will be at Cummings Cemetery on Vinalhaven, where both her parents are buried.
