OBIT-McFarland1 OBIT-McFarland2BAR HARBOR —  Roy Watson McFarland, 90, died Jan. 14, 2016, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Jan. 31, 1925, in Bar Harbor, the son of Pearl Marion and Gladys May (Lunt) McFarland.

Roy graduated from Bar Harbor High School in 1943. He worked at the Jackson Laboratory, retiring after 40 years. He served in the U.S. Army as corporal, in the 276th ORD Maintenance Company from 1943-1946. Roy was a member of the Bar Harbor Masonic Lodge #185, Scottish Rites, Anah Temple Shrine, Hancock County Shrine Club, Scottish Rites and was a member of the 40 Haysiders Way Back Ball.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Jacqueline (Higgins) McFarland; one daughter, Deborah M. Monastra and husband, Salvatore, of N.Y.; four grandchildren; Jason M. Monastra, Erik M. Monastra, Jessica M. Monastra and David M. Monastra; three great-grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Roy was predeceased by his brother, Lawrence D. McFarland.

Friends are invited to call 2-4 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016, at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mount Desert, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 21, with the Rev. Rob Benson officiating. Interment will be at Brookside Cemetery, Mount Desert.
