Roy Kasindorf

Bar Harbor

Roy Kasindorf of Bar Harbor died unexpectedly on May 28, 2019, surrounded by loved ones at Northern Light EMMC in Bangor, where Roy received wonderful care and his family great comfort.

Roy was born in New York City and spent the first part of his life there, where he raised his children and met his wife, Helene. Roy and Helene moved to Bar Harbor in 1991 when they purchased the Ullikana Inn and then the Yellow House, realizing their dream of owning a bed and breakfast. Many of their guests became lifelong friends and their staff became family. Roy’s love of Bar Harbor was so contagious that many former guests returned and made Bar Harbor their home.

Roy was so proud to be part of the Island community and was such a humble and genuine man he likely never realized how loved he was by everyone who came in contact with him. A beautiful celebration of Roy’s life was held on Saturday, June 1, at The Bayview Hotel, a perfect setting where the entire family was able to be together for a weekend of celebration and memories.

Roy loved Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island, especially the Shorepath and Little Long Pond, having spent years walking the trails with Helene and three generations of dogs.

Roy always said that he had lived a great life and accomplished all of his dreams and if he passed away the next day, he would have no regrets.

He leaves behind his wife, Helene Harton, of Bar Harbor, son Henry and daughter-in-law Cindy Kasindorf of Tenafly, N.J., daughter Audrey Kasindorf of NYC, grandchildren Jack, Arielle, Adam and Jonathan and sister and brother-in-law Joanna and Rich Fireman of Asheville, N.C., and nephews Brian and Geoff Fireman as well as many other relatives and friends.

To honor Roy’s memory, donations may be made to either the Village Improvement Association of Bar Harbor, which will oversee the placement of a granite bench in Roy’s memory on his beloved Shorepath, or the Land and Garden Preserve to help maintain Little Long Pond, where dogs can roam off-leash with their humans.

Donations can be sent to: Land & Garden Preserve, P.O. Box 208, Seal Harbor, ME 04675 (gardenpreserve.org) or the Bar Harbor Village Improvement Association, P.O. Box 52, Bar Harbor, ME 04609 (barharborvia.org).
