Robert Strawbridge Crompton


Robert Strawbridge Crompton, of Palm Beach, Fla., and Northeast Harbor, passed away on July 15, 2018.

Bob was born May 28, 1962, in Philadelphia, and was raised on his mother’s farm “Runnymede” in Coatesville, Pa., and in Palm Beach, Fla. He spent summers in Northeast Harbor. Bob attended Upland Country Day School, Trinity-Pawling School and graduated from Widener University.

Bob was a very accomplished equestrian, including hunters, jumpers and foxhunting. He won many pony championships and was Amateur Champion of the Year on his horse “Wall Street Trader.” He was also a very skilled and competitive sailor, and won many championships on his well-campaigned boat Full Cry.

Bob was a member of the Bath & Tennis Club, the Everglades Club, and the Sailfish Club in Palm Beach and several clubs in Pennsylvania and Northeast Harbor.

Bob is lovingly remembered by his mother, Diana S. Wister; brother John S. Crompton; sister Margaret D. Duriez; daughters Taylor H. Crompton and Diana S. Crompton; nieces Charlotte H. Crompton, Ines D. Duriez, and Delphine D. Duriez; nephews Lucien D. and Hugo D. Duriez; half-brothers Andrew C. Crompton, James S.R. Crompton, William R. Crompton, Robert H. Crompton and Thomas S. Crompton; half-sister Georgia R. Crompton; and former wives Jill Hepworth Crompton and Sophie Sharp.

His father, Robert H. Crompton III, predeceased him.
