Robert Douglas Cooper

On July 16, 2017, Robert Douglas Cooper, 66, passed away unexpectedly, due to complications from a heart attack. His Lord Jesus called him home! He was born Nov. 10, 1950, in Portland, the son of Llewellyn Winfield and Pauline Oletha (MacMackin) Cooper.

He was the beloved husband of Alice and adored father of Christian and Lorin. Although Lorin had gone to heaven 18 years ago, there was not a day that Bob did not lovingly hold her close in his heart.

Bob owned Cooper Gardens and operated the greenhouse and lawn service business with Alice for over 36 years. Although he had not played recently, he had enjoyed golfing and made many lifelong friends. Bob was a member of the First Light Assembly of God Church in Town Hill. He deeply loved each and every member of his little church family.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Alice E. (Ballou) Cooper, his son, Christian R. Cooper, one brother, James Cooper and wife, Marva of Tyrone, Ga., one sister, JoAnn Sawyer and husband, Cliff, of Yarmouth, five nieces and nephews; Ben, Brent and Kaitlyn Sawyer and Brooke and Andrew Cooper and by his sweet Australian shepherd, Valentina and his mouse catcher, Grace.

Robert was predeceased by his parents, a daughter, Lorin Cooper, a brother, Tom and nephew, Brett Cooper.

Friends are invited to call, 5-7 p.m., Friday, July 21, 2017, at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mount Desert. Memorial services will be held, 10 a.m., Saturday, July 22, at First Light Assembly of God, Town Hill. Interment will be at Ledgelawn Cemetery, Bar Harbor.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Robert’s memory may be made to the Lorin Cooper Fund (to assist those in any type of need) Bar Harbor Bank & Trust, P.O. Box 400, Bar Harbor, ME 04609.
