Pauline Louise Cunningham Johnson, 93, of Bar Harbor, died on April 15, 2019, in her home after a period of failing health. She was born on Feb. 27, 1926, in Bar Harbor to Blanche and Walter Cunningham. She spent her life in Bar Harbor enjoying the company of friends Sadie, Claire and her younger sister Bev. Pauline graduated from Bar Harbor High School in 1944. On Aug. 24, 1946, she married Roger C Johnson.
Pauline worked at the Bar Harbor High School and the MDI High School in the guidance department until her retirement in 1992.She and Roger also ran the Hulls Cove Market during the 1960s. She was an avid knitter and enjoyed the weekly Knitting Club, which rotated through the members’ homes each Wednesday. Pauline (or simply Paul, as Roger called her) spent much time at the camp Homeport that they built together on the Northern Neck of Long Pond and loved every minute of it.
She was a lifelong member of St Saviour’s Episcopal Church in Bar Harbor.
Pauline was predeceased by her parents, Blanche and Walter Cunningham, brother Walter (Joe) Cunningham and her husband, Roger Johnson, and nephew Bruce Freeman.
She is survived by her daughter Jillaine Butler and partner Deb Bumbaugh, grandson Joshua Butler and wife, Pier Fisher, great-grandchildren Aidan, James, Ruth, Charlotte and Elizabeth Butler and her sister Beverly Frazier and husband, Robert. She also is survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Gassman, Dr. Little and Northern Light Home Care and Hospice for their support and care.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
