Patricia Sovereign Gates Norris



OBIT ISL-NorrisPALM BEACH, FLA. and NORTHEAST HARBOR — Patricia Sovereign Gates Norris, of Palm Beach, Fla., and Northeast Harbor, died peacefully at home on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Norris was born March 27, 1932, to Thomas S. Gates, Jr. and Millicent Anne Gates in Philadelphia, Pa. She attended the Agnes Irwin School, and was graduated from Miss Porter’s School in Farmington, Conn. She married William King Norris on June 27, 1952. Mr. Norris predeceased her in 2003 after 51 years of marriage.

For many years, Mrs. Norris worked as a department manager and buyer at both Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman. She also worked as a wedding coordinator.

She is survived by her daughters, Polly Foster Norris, of Palm Beach, Fla., and Sandra Norris Ghosh and her husband, Amit Ghosh, of Phoenixville, Pa.; three grandchildren, William Gates Ober of New York N.Y.; Lydia Lawrence Ober of Boulder, Colo.; and Edward Graham Ober, of San Francisco, Calif. She is also survived by sisters Anne Gates Ponce of Santa Fe, N.M.; Katharine Gates McCoy of Chadds Ford, Pa.; as well as many nieces and nephews. A brother, Thomas S. Gates III, predeceased her in 1956.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Acadia, 43 Cottage St., Bar Harbor, ME 04609. A celebration of life was held on Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the Royal Poinciana Chapel, Palm Beach, Fla.
