Muriel Walls Billings

Seal Harbor

Muriel Walls Billings, born Feb. 1, 1929, passed away peacefully in her home in Seal Harbor on April 24. Daughter of Jessie and Harry Fernald, Muriel was born in Franklin. She was married to her first husband, James Walls, in 1947 and bore their son Keith. She became a widow in 1952 and married David Billings in 1956 and bore their son Tim. Muriel was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who was often found in the kitchen preparing family meals. She prided herself on living simply, never shied away from work and wasted nothing. Just months before passing she could be seen hanging her sheets out on the line to dry.

One of Muriel’s greatest pleasures was gardening. She had an understanding and tenderness for plants that was astounding. She shared those gifts, particularly her roses, with many. She loved anything that connected her to nature, especially birds and visiting national parks.

Muriel is survived by her sister Helen Hyde, sons Keith Walls and Tim Billings, grandchildren James Walls, Jessie Wallaert, Joanna Fogg and great-grandchildren Henry, Isla, Siren, Avery, Lachlan and Iona.

There will be no public service and it was Muriel’s wish that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Seal Harbor Village Improvement Society or Mount Desert Nursing Association.
