Mildred Katherine Morrell, 81, died April 27, 2019, in Portland. She was born May 3, 1937, in Elizabeth, N.J., the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Currie) Colchie.
Katherine married her husband, James Morrell, on Aug. 15, 1965, in New York.
She owned and operated a preschool called the Morrell School in New York City. She taught at the Boston Graduate School for psychoanalysis, and at the Center for Group Studies in New York City. Katherine served on the board of consultants at the Eliot Group Institute.
When Katherine wasn’t teaching, she loved to craft art. She worked in several different mediums, including painting and collage, and created unique tapestries, some of which were featured in several art galleries in New York.
She is survived by two daughters; Lauren Morrell and her husband, Jason Goodrich, of Portland, Ore., and Erika Morrell of Los Angeles, Calif. One brother, Thomas Colchie and his wife, Elaine, of Brooklyn, N.Y. Katherine was predeceased by her husband, James.
Graveside services will be held 1 p.m., Friday, May 3, 2019, at Ledgelawn Cemetery, Bar Harbor.
