BAR HARBOR — Melissa Jean Watership, DVM, 46, beloved wife of Matthew A. Cough, died Feb. 24, 2016, in Bar Harbor. She was born, Feb. 24, 1970, in Brockton, Mass., the daughter of Ronald and Jean (Hill) Blake.
Melissa was an associate of the Acadia Veterinary Hospital. Before coming to Maine, she had spent six years as the chief of staff at a large emergency veterinary hospital in North Carolina and had also served as the chief veterinarian for a wildlife conservation center there. Melissa was a wonderful mother and wife. She also enjoyed reading and viewing a variety of art mediums.
She is survived by her husband, Matthew Cough, her son, Morgan Wheeler and her daughter, Sophia Wheeler, all of Bar Harbor; two stepdaughters, Sarah Cough Dedej, and Sydney Cough, both of Washington, D.C.; her mother-in-law, Marjorie Cough; four sisters-in-law, six brothers-in-law and their families, and her best friend Kathy of North Carolina. She was predeceased by her parents.
