Marianne S. Barnicle


Marianne S. Barnicle, 91, passed away on May 21, 2018, in Bar Harbor. She was the devoted mother of Sarah S. Barnicle and Kathryn S. Barnicle, both of Marblehead and Plymouth, Mass. Marianne was the daughter of the late Sarah (Sadie) McFarland and Harry Simpson.

She is survived by her daughters, her sister Ellen S. Bryant of Plymouth, Mass., and she was predeceased by her brother Harry L. Simpson of Yucaipa, Calif.

Marianne was born in Bar Harbor and was a teacher for much of her life, including Tower School in Marblehead, Blue Gap School in Chinle, Ariz., and Conners Emerson in Bar Harbor. When retiring back to Bar Harbor, Marianne was the lead volunteer at the Bar Harbor Food Pantry, volunteered at the Maine Seacoast Mission’s Christmas program and undertook the enormous task of organizing the extensive Mission archives. She won Bar Harbor Woman of the Year and was honored by the Maine Seacoast Mission at the annual Sunbeam Awards Gala in 2009.

Memorial services will be held in Bar Harbor on June 8, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the Maine Seacoast Mission. Contributions to Marianne’s memory may be made to the Mission and the Food Pantry.
