Marguerite A. Gilley

MANSET – Marguerite A. Gilley, 83, died Jan. 5, 2017, at her home. She was born Nov. 30, 1933, at Hartland, the daughter of Howard and Alida L. (Marshall) Ames.

Marguerite graduated from Bar Harbor High School in 1951 and married Jack H. Gilley in 1959. She worked for many years at MDI Hospital as a medical transcriptionist until her retirement in 1998. Over the years, Marguerite was an avid reader and especially enjoyed sewing for her children and grandchildren. Marguerite had been a member of the Eugene M. Norwood Post No. 69 Auxiliary and the Trenton and Southwest Harbor Historical Society.

Marguerite is survived by her husband, Jack H. Gilley Sr.; son Jack H. Gilley Jr. and fiancée, Cheryl, of Franklin; two sisters, Ellen Stanley and husband, Frank, of West Tremont and Laura Sullivan and husband, Donald, of Southwest Harbor; brother Dale M. Ames; seven grandchildren, Kyle and Shannon Stanley, Jessie, Melinda and Jillian Gilley, Aaron and Shelby Sullivan; three great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; a large extended family and special friends. She was predeceased by her brother Charles A. Ames in 2000.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017, at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mount Desert. Spring interment will be at Leland Cemetery, Trenton. Those who desire may make contributions in Marguerite’s memory to the Trenton Historical Society, P.O. Box 132, Trenton, ME 04605.
