Linda Grace Lyons, gentle soul, curious spirit and lover of truth, died on Monday, Aug. 23, 2021, after a long journey with cancer. She was 69 years old.
Born on Nov. 17, 1951, in Lewiston, she was the daughter of William and Edith (Bonney) Lyons. She graduated from Edward Little High School and attended the University of Southern Maine. After working for the New England Telephone Co., she joined Lyons Electric, the contracting firm started by her dad, as office manager and bookkeeper. Both her brothers, Michael and James, also worked for the company as electricians.
Having fallen in love with Bar Harbor while on family visits as a child, Linda moved to Mount Desert Island in 1976, and joined the office staff at John Williams Boat Co. in Hall Quarry. For a few years, she resided on Sanibel Island in Florida, working as an office manager and accountant for a real estate company. After moving back to her home in Bar Harbor she joined Hinckley Yachts in Southwest Harbor as a sales associate working with vice president of sales and marketing Phil Bennett.
Linda loved all the joys of living in the close-knit community of Bar Harbor and spending time outdoors along the shore or in Acadia National Park. She also reveled in adventures farther afield, including backpacking trips to Mahoosuc Notch, the Appalachian Trail’s toughest mile, to the top of Bigelow Mountain, and in the northern wilds of Baxter State Park. She also found time to pursue her artistic side, as a painter and in building a full darkroom in her home to pursue large format photography.
The family wants to thank Phil Bennett, caregiver Mary Grace and the folks at Northern Light Hospice for their kindness and compassion in Linda’s final days.
Linda was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her brother Michael and his partner Anna Cook and brother James, all of Danville, and her sister Bonnie of Bar Harbor.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, friends are encouraged to make donations to the Acadia Wildlife Center, P.O. Box 207, Mount Desert, ME 04660.
