Lewis “Pete” Griffin Crafts

LISBON FALLS

Lewis “Pete” Griffin Crafts of Lisbon Falls passed away on Sept. 27, 2019. He was born in Williamsport, Pa., on March 22, 1939, to Margaret (Lay) Crafts and Lewis H. Crafts.

After growing up in various locations throughout his childhood due to his father’s job as a hotel and resort manager, he finally found a community to belong to when his parents chose Southwest Harbor as their permanent summer home. He attended Pemetic High School, which kept the family here year-round, graduating in the Class of 1959 before joining the Air Force as a prop mechanic. Being a part of the military community was something he always cherished, culminating in his serving as post commander and chaplain for American Legion Post 158 in Lisbon. His faith was another important part of his life, no matter which Episcopal church he attended. He was always willing to lend a hand, whether that meant helping friends move across the country, staying after the church’s social hour to help clean up or volunteering with the LACO Food Bank. Loved ones will always remember his outgoing personality, contagious smile and twinkling blue eyes.

Lewis was predeceased by two older brothers, Redding and Harry Crafts.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Judith Ann (McFarland) Crafts, and her son Michael, whom he adopted, his wife, Anita, and his two granddaughters, Samantha and Meagan.

He is also survived by two daughters from a previous marriage to Shirley (Worcester) Dyer: Amanda Crafts and her husband, Duncan Bowen, of Mount Desert Island and Sethany Crafts of Hampden.

He leaves behind two sisters-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews as well as many friends.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Hospice House of Androscoggin, 236 Stetson Road, Auburn ME 04210.

A service of remembrance will be held on the lawn at 187 Shore Road in Manset on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 3 p.m.
