Joyce Borie Reath died peacefully on Sept. 17, 2019, in Concord, N.H., after a brief illness.
Mrs. Reath was born on Aug. 27, 1922, in Abington, Pa., and lived in Rydal, Pa., until her marriage to Thomas Reath Jr. of Chestnut Hill, Pa., in 1946. Together, they spent many summers in Northeast Harbor, where she enjoyed her friends, boating, swimming and a good game of bridge. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and especially liked working on jigsaw puzzles together with them.
She is survived by her two daughters, Joyce Reece, and her husband, Franklin A. Reece, of Cambridge, Mass., and Mary Reath and her husband, John L. Gummere, of Concord, N.H.; four grandchildren, Franklin Thompson Reece and wife, Jessica, Elizabeth Eshleman Reece, Lisa Andrews Day and husband, Graham, James Thompson Funk and wife, Christina; and seven great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Rose Reece, Franklin T. Reece Jr., Luella, Marion and Harper Day, Caitlyn and Conor Funk.
Mrs. Reath’s husband, Thomas Reath Jr., died on May 6, 2010, in York Harbor. Her two brothers, William Joyce Sewall Borie and John Rutherford McAllister Borie, and her sister, Anne Borie Freund, also predeceased her.
A memorial service will be held in Northeast Harbor in early summer 2020.
