Joseph H. Lear III



obit LearflagSOUTHWEST HARBOR — Joseph H. Lear III, 65, died unexpectedly on Feb. 23, 2016, at Eastern Maine Medical Center. Born at Bar Harbor Hospital on Aug. 23, 1950; graduated from Bar Harbor High School in 1958.

He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from October 1969 for a period of three years as a Green Beret Co-A-4th Bat. 503 Div. Inf.; 173rd Abn Bde.

He received the honors of: National Defense Service Medal; Parachute Badge; Vietnam Service Medal; Vietnam Campaign Medal.

He is survived by his eldest son Todd B. Lear and his girlfriend Tonya Ingrisano; the mother of his sons and best friend, Sue Lear, all of Southwest Harbor; his parents Mack and Lucy Stanley of Mount Desert; sister Karen and husband Ray of Cornville; brother Crawford and wife Opal of Southwest Harbor; sister Faith of South Carolina; brother Foye and wife Dajam of Texas; baby sister Barbara of South Carolina; several nieces and nephews who loved him very much! He was preceded in death by his youngest son, Travis Jo Lear, 25 years old, Dec. 23, 2001.

A remembrance service will be held in Town Hill at Pentecostal Lighthouse Church on Saturday, March 5, at 11 a.m. All are welcome to join us.
