Jani Mika Uolevi Mesiniemi, 44, died unexpectedly Feb. 8, 2021, at his home in Somesville. He was born March 27, 1976, in Espoo, Finland, the son of Jaakko Mesiniemi and Eija Mesiniemi.
Jani graduated from Eastern Maine Community College 2010 with an associate degree in building technology and computer aided Drafting. Jani then further pursued his education at College of the Atlantic, graduating in 2013. He also had completed military service and was a veteran of the Finnish Army.
Jani is survived by his loving mother, Eija Mesiniemi; his devoted sister, Heli Mesiniemi, her husband and his best friend, William Hanley, and beloved nieces Aleksandra and Matilda Hanley, all of Mount Desert; his relatives in Finland and many, many friends whose lives were touched by Jani’s kindness.
Jani was a true gentle soul, humble with a quiet sense of humor. Jani was selflessly committed to his family and brought peace to the people around him. He is greatly missed, but never forgotten. Fly with the eagles, Jani.
Your actions were always kind
A generous hand and an peaceful mind
Anxious to please and loath to offend
A loving son, brother and faithful friend
We’ll all miss you very much.
