James “Jimmy” Warren Dorr Jr.



SOUTHWEST HARBOR

James “Jimmy” Warren Dorr Jr., 55, of Southwest Harbor, after many years of disability and illness, passed away on Jan. 22 at his sister’s home where he resided.

Jimmy was born Aug. 6, 1964, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to James Warren Dorr Sr. and E. Louise (Dancer) Dorr. Being a child of a USAF military family, Jimmy moved several times (Kansas, Germany, England and North Dakota) before his dad’s retirement to the family home in Southwest Harbor when he was 8. He attended Pemetic Elementary School and graduated from MDI High School.

Jimmy worked as a campground groundskeeper, house painter and in several restaurants. He had a passion for model trains, football and motorcycles. He loved to read spy novels and to watch sci-fi.

He was predeceased by his father and his friend and brother-in-law John M. Lanpher Jr. He is survived by his mother and stepdad Wint Seal Sr.; his sisters Cynthia (Cindy) Lanpher of Southwest Harbor, Caren Spiess and husband, Richard, of Okeechoobee, Fla., and Connie Gowell of Hulls Cove; nephews John Lanpher III, Derek Lanpher and fiancée Dakota, Sasha Gowell and wife, Katie, and Richard Spiess; niece Reba Spiess; five great-nieces; his close friends Amy, Phil, Ryan and John; and many cousins.

The family wishes to express their gratitude and appreciation to the MDI Hospital and various ambulance service, police personnel and EMTs for their care of Jim over the years.

Services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Bar Harbor Fire Department and the Southwest Harbor Ambulance Service.
