J. Lowell Dunbar, 62, died unexpectedly July 26, 2021, at his home in Gouldsboro. He was born in Bar Harbor, June 27, 1959, the son of Charlie and Gussie (Grindle) Dunbar.
He was raised in Southwest Harbor and graduated from MDI High School, Class of 1977. He then served in the U.S. Air Force from 1981-1985. In 1983, he married Naomi Mortensen. J joined the U.S. Army in 1986 and served until 1990 when he retired. J and Naomi settled in Gouldsboro, where they raised their four children together and celebrated 38 years of marriage.
J was known as a very loving, caring, comedic family man and friend who enjoyed tearing up the roads with his 1979 Z28 Camaro back in the day and his 2004 SRT-10 Dodge Ram. He loved to socialize with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Naomi; son, PJ Dunbar and wife, Jessica, and their five children; daughters, Amanda Dunbar and her daughter Shelby, Brittany Dunbar and partner Todd Waite and their son Samuel; son, Dylan Dunbar; brother Danny Dunbar and his wife, Florence, and their two sons, Jesse and Benjamin Dunbar.
A graveside service will be held at Mt. Height Cemetery in Southwest Harbor on Sunday, Aug. 15, 2021, at 2 p.m. All are welcome.
