Iris Margaret Kilcoyne

Obit- ISL- Kilcoyne_BAR HARBOR – Iris Margaret Kilcoyne (nee Willet) passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 23, 2016, at Mira Vista Care Center in Mount Vernon, Wash., at the age of 96.

Iris was born to Barbara Silsby Willet and Joshua Thomas Willet in Bar Harbor in 1920. She married the late John Kilcoyne in Connecticut in 1943. She worked during WWII at a munitions plant and also sold war bonds. They moved to Philadelphia, Pa., and became happy parents to their son, Edward John Kilcoyne, in 1949. A move to Baltimore, Md., brought the birth of their daughter, Kathleen Kilcoyne. Iris spent many years in Baltimore working in retail sales, and sewed much of her own clothing, as well as for her daughter.

Her hobbies of needlework, crocheting and knitting created many happy memories and gifts for everyone. She lived and worked in Roland View Towers for almost 20 years before her daughter moved her to Mount Vernon, Wash., in 1998 to be with her family.

She loved traveling with Kathy, Jon and Kelly to the Oregon Coast or up to Heather Meadows near Mount Baker. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed crowding her porch with flowers.

Iris is survived by her daughter, Kathy Kilcoyne (Jon Vanderheyden), and granddaughter Kelly Vanderheyden in Washington and daughter-in-law Mary Lu Kilcoyne, grandsons Sean (Tracy) and Tim (Amber) Kilcoyne and four great-grandchildren, Andrew, Ryan, Katie and Molly Kilcoyne, in Maryland.

Iris was preceded in death by husband John Kilcoyne of Clinton, Mass., and beloved son Edward Kilcoyne of Lutherville, Md.

Know when to pay your respects.
