Iona Mary Strout, 90, died at home with her loving family at her side. She was born Oct. 29, 1929, in Palmyra, the daughter of James and Ida Tait. Mrs. Strout worked at Mount Desert Island Hospital for 42 years as a CNA and monitor tech in the critical care unit. After retiring from the hospital, she worked as a home health aide on her own for eight years. Mrs. Strout liked to knit, cook and play with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Strout is survived by her son, Christopher Strout of Bar Harbor, and a daughter, Sharon Grant of Ellsworth; one sister, Teresa; three grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a special great-grandson, Colton.
A service of remembrance will be held at 10 a.m., Nov. 7 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Bar Harbor with Father Joseph W. Cahill presiding. Interment will be at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Bar Harbor.
Contributions in Mrs. Strout’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905. Arrangements were made by Acadia Burial.
