Ida D. Howie, 89, died Nov. 20, 2017, in Bar Harbor, with her family by her side. She was born July 1, 1928, in Whiting to Jennie B. (Dowling) and Ralph Dowling.
She married Paul L. Howie, her soul mate and the love of her life, in 1948.
Ida enjoyed ceramics, knitting, reading and needlepoint.
Ida leaves her husband, of 69 years, children, Ken Howie and wife, Jeanie, of Bar Harbor, Cindy Foss and husband, Edward, of Hancock, her sister Allie Cousins and husband, Merle, of Southwest Harbor, and a special sister-in-law, Geraldine Howie of Massachusetts. Grandchildren, Cindi Sargent, Cori Mitchell and husband Joel, Debi Foster and husband, Adam, Jon Foss and wife, Niki, Joshua, Tim, Keegan Howie, Darci Smith and husband, Neal Freeman. Great-grandchildren Nicholas, Andrew, William Sargent, Alexander, Jacob Foster, Rhiana Foss, Logan Dunifer, Gage Pinkham, Maci, Cami Mitchell and Ned Freeman. Several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by brothers Raymond, Austin and Warren, and grandson Edward Foss II.
Ida will be dearly missed by family and friends.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at Jordan-Fernald in Mount Desert, followed by a celebration of her life at Big Cat’s in Trenton at noon.
