Helen M. Anderson


Helen M. Anderson, 95, died Aug. 21, 2020, at an Orono health-care facility. She was born June 4, 1925, in Tremont, a daughter of Joseph W. and Rose (McGovern) Kelley.

Helen worked in her early years at the local cannery packing sardines. She spent over 20 years at Henry R. Hinckley Co. in the fiberglass department. She enjoyed making quilts and gave many of them as gifts to friends and family.

She is survived by two sons, Ernie Campbell Jr. and his wife, Linda, and David Campbell, all of Bass Harbor; a daughter, Brenda Harkins, and husband, Norman, of Seal Cove; a sister, Hilda, and husband, Norman “Red” Schauss, of Connecticut; nine grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by her daughter, Nancy (Galley) Littlefield; a husband, Clarence Galley, during WWII; former husband, Ernest Campbell Sr.; and widowed by husband, Harold “Bob” Anderson, in 1997; three brothers, Walter, Shirley and John; and a sister, Rosemarie Matthews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Orono Commons for their wonderful care of their Mother.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 1, at Head of the Harbor Cemetery, Marsh Road, Bass Harbor, with Pastor Robert Maddocks presiding.
