Helen was born in Mansfield, Mass., on Nov. 18, 1924, the daughter of Arthur and Theresa (Lyons) McKay. They enjoyed many years of traveling and good times. Helen owned Helen Ludwig’s Beauty Shop for several years in Attleboro, Mass.
In the early 1980s Helen, Don and their daughter Bonnie moved to Southwest Harbor. Helen continued her love of hairdressing along with helping others along the way. Helen enjoyed blueberrying, Curves in Somesville, breakfast with “the girls,” attending church, helping with Tremont Ladies Aid Society and bingo at the Southwest Harbor elderly housing. Helen was known for her crocheting and handywork. Many people about town have a set of her famous potholders. Her pride and joy was her only grandchild, Andy. Helen became a grandmother at age 76. Andy kept Helen young for the next 20 years.
Helen is survived by her daughter Bonnie Boisvert, son-in-law Bernie Boisvert, grandson Andy Boisvert, two sisters, Betty Corbett of The Villages, Fla., and Louise St. Germain of Bar Harbor, two brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Due to the ongoing pandemic, an outdoor only, graveside service will be scheduled sometime in June. The family would like to thank the wonderful care Helen received from MDI Hospital, Birch Bay Village and Beacon Hospice.
