Helen A. Kingsbury

OBIT ISL-KingsburyCHARLESTOWN, N.H. — Helen A. Kingsbury, 87, of Charlestown Road in Charlestown, N.H., died Friday, April 1, 2016, at her home following a period of failing health. She was born in Mount Desert on March 17, 1929, the daughter of Hugh and Ruth (McKay) Gilley. She was educated at the Gilman High School in Northeast Harbor and received her GED from Wells High School at the tender age of 60. Prior to moving to Claremont, N.H., she and her late husband owned and operated a weekly paper and job shop in Pittsfield.

Helen was a communicant of St. Mary Parish in Claremont, N.H. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Windsor, Vt., and former member of the Camden-Rockport Garden Club in Rockport. Members of her family include her husband, Lyle W. Kingsbury, Charlestown, N.H.; three daughters, Rainelle West, Arundel; Virginia McNamara, Boca Raton, Fla.; Julee Meltzer, St. Augustine, Fla.; a son, Dennis Mitchell, Augusta; two stepdaughters, Marie LaFlower, Portland; Linda Poirier, Charlestown, N.H.; a stepson, Gary Kingsbury, Berwick; 13 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; a sister, Marjorie Taylor, Northeast Harbor, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Gerald Mitchell Sr.; a son, Gerald Mitchell Jr.; a daughter, Teresa Kirk, and a stepdaughter, Dolores Lacroix, and two sisters, Mary Walls and Alice Walton.

There will be no visiting hours. Graveside committal services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta, where she will be laid to rest next to her first husband, Gerald Mitchell Sr. You are invited to share a memory of Helen with the family or leave a message of condolence in the family guest book at www.royfuneralhome.com.
