Harold Francis Ford

Bar Harbor

Harold Francis Ford, 85 died peacefully at home in Bar Harbor on Oct. 18, 2020, after a long illness.

He was born on Nov. 9, 1934, in West Haven, Conn., and was a graduate of Yale University School of Art. He studied graphic design at Paier College of Art and worked in that field before turning to his real love, painting, full time.

After Hal and his wife, Lise, relocated to Bar Harbor in the early 1990s, Hal was able to focus more fully on his art. His paintings were on display in various Northeast Harbor galleries, and he had an enthusiastic and loyal following. Hal’s other interests included hiking and sailing. He was a dedicated member of the MDI Community Sailing Center in Southwest Harbor, where he taught sailing for a number of years.

He is survived by his wife, Lise, his stepchildren Michael Roche and Patricia Varga, his children John Ford and Sheryl Ford and six grandchildren.

A family gathering to celebrate Hal’s life is planned for a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the MDI Community Sailing Center, 168 Clark Point Road, Southwest Harbor, ME 04679.

Arrangements by Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mount Desert.
