Gwendlyn Butler

OBIT ISL-ButlerSEAL COVE — Gwendlyn “Gwennie” Butler died peacefully surrounded by family on April 30, 2015, in Bar Harbor, at the age of 61.

Gwennie was born on Feb. 7, 1954, to Harland and Agnes Butler. One of 10 children, she was raised in a large, tightly knit family in Seal Cove. After attending MDI High School, she began work locally as a cook at Effie’s Lunchroom, and later at the sardine factory and as a caretaker to numerous families in the area. Gwennie loved MDI and decided at a young age to stay in the area to raise her own family. Her children will remember her as a fun and loving mother who was always proud of all their accomplishments and just wanted them to live life to the fullest.

She was known as a wonderful cook and took pride in a neat and clean kitchen. Her crabmeat sandwiches, homemade soups and banana bread could often be found at the table. Later in life, she found her soul mate, Greg, whom she cherished dearly and spent the last of her years with.

In addition to her fiancé Gregory Pierce, Gwennie is survived by her children Corey Mansolilli and wife, Carrie, Michael Mansolilli and partner, Samantha, and Jasmime Mansolilli and partner, Mike; grandchildren Amaya Mansolilli, Wallace Gray and Niall Mansolilli; siblings Yvonne Black, Carroll Butler and partner, Sue, Mittie Butler, David Butler and wife, Sherri, Jacob Butler and wife, Dorene, Rose Sargeant and partner, Adam, Peter Butler and partner, Maria, and Molly Butler and husband, David. She also leaves many very special nieces, nephews and cousins. Gwennie was predeceased by her parents and sister, Queenie Scott-Henderson.

A celebration of life at the Algerine Coast in Seal Cove will be planned and announced at a later date. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hancock County Homecare and Hospice, P.O. Box 655, Ellsworth, ME 04605.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the Hospice staff for their dedication to Gwennie’s comfort.
