George H. Vose Jr. died on May 20, 2022, at the Mount Desert Island Hospital after a long illness. He was born Jan. 12, 1940, in Warwick, R.I., the youngest son of George Vose and Lena (Nassi) Vose.
Following graduation from high school, George found his way to family in Wiscasset and eventually to Bar Harbor in the 1960s. Finding peace there, he returned many times over his life, until moving permanently to Bar Harbor in 1999. Over the past 23 years, George has been a beloved member of the community, serving as a volunteer for many years at the Bar Harbor food pantry and in leadership roles in the MDI Housing Authority. Many across the island will remember George for his kindness, his acerbic wit and love of peace and solitude. George was an insatiable reader, and the early birds of Bar Harbor would see him daily at Albert Meadow devouring crime thrillers. Throughout a lifetime of ups and downs, successes and defeats, George was loved.
George is survived by his former wife, Darlene (Harper) Vose, of Branford, Conn., and two daughters: Jessica (Vose) Coulibaly of Pretoria, South Africa, and Sara Vose of Pennsylvania. George adored his five grandchildren: Zie, Djeneba and Lena Coulibaly of Pretoria, South Africa; and Chase and Harper Montello of Pennsylvania.
George was a fervent supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for most of this life. Gifts in his memory can be sent to St Jude’s at www.stjude.org. Condolences may be expressed to [email protected]
