Treasure Island, Fla., and Seal Harbor
Esther M. Gorman, 83, of Treasure Island, Fla., and Seal Harbor, followed her husband of 48 years, William W. (Bill) Gorman Jr., into eternal rest a mere five days after Bill’s passing.
She was born May 24, 1939, to John and Marie Jordan of Seal Harbor. Esther grew up around the family business started by her grandfather, Everette Jordan.
After graduating from Mount Desert High School in 1957, Esther attended the University of Maine, earning a bachelor’s degree in zoology and a master’s degree in chemistry. Esther then began her long career in biochemistry. During this time, she met Bill Gorman.
Bill and Esther married in 1974 in Sarasota, Fla.
They eventually started their own company, developing medical apparatus used in electrophoresis. After an amazing career, Esther retired in 1990.
During their lives, Bill and Esther traveled extensively. Avid hikers, they visited many national parks, with Acadia and Arches amongst their favorites. They traveled globally as well, taking cruises often. However, no matter where they went, Esther always considered Seal Harbor to be her home.
Having no children of her own, Esther was very devoted to her family, especially her mother, Marie. She enjoyed a close, loving relationship with her nieces and nephews. She was a loyal and caring friend to many.
Esther is survived by her sister Judy Harvel; brother-in-law Kenneth Gorman; stepson Bruce Gorman and his wife Judi; step-grandson Jason Smith; nieces Melissa (Harvel) Millhaven and Johanna Harvel; nephews James and Ron Jordan and special friends Katie and Kyle.
She is predeceased by her husband Bill, her parents, her brother Jack, sister-in-law Eleanor and brother-in-law Dennis Harvel.
Private interment will be in Seal Harbor at a later date.
