Douglas Emerson Beal Jr.

flagSOUTHWEST HARBOR — Douglas Emerson Beal Jr., 62, died from complications from surgery at his home in Southwest Harbor. He was born Aug. 26, 1952, in Bar Harbor, the son of Douglas E. Beal Sr. and Joanne H. (MacLeod) Beal.

Doug graduated from Mount Desert Island High School in 1973. He served as a U.S. Marine during the Vietnam War. Doug worked in marine construction for over 40 years. Doug loved being on the water and was an avid boater in Maine and Florida. He also enjoyed golfing and carpentry.

Doug is survived by his wife of 37 years Vicki G. (Archer) Beal; mother Joanne M. Beal, of Southwest Harbor; a daughter, Kara Chambers and husband, Jeff, of Holden;  two sons, Ryan Scott and wife, Naoko Ishide, of Hadley, Mass.; Shannon Scott and wife, Lori, of Palm Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Spencer and Faith Scott, Kouji and Yuuki Ishida, Ethan, Evan and Exannder Chambers: brother Dickie Beal and wife, Amy, of Southwest Harbor; sister Jan Beal and partner, Karen Godbout, of Bass Harbor; mother-in –law, Patricia Archer; several nieces and nephews. Doug was predeceased by his father, Douglas E. Beal Sr., in 2008.

At Doug’s request, a private family service will be held.
