Donald Leroy Foster


Donald Leroy Foster died peacefully May 28, 2017, at a local hospital in Receda, Calif. His son Tony was at his side. He was born in Bar Harbor, March 16, 1931, the son of Mildred Harriman Foster Alan and George Fuller Foster. He went to Bar Harbor High School and while there was an assembly member, played football, basketball and ran track for four years. He was part of the school plays for three years and the Islander board for one year.

Don attended Maine Maritime Academy and while there he painted several wall murals at Leavitt Hall. He was quite artistic, having done the cover of the High School Islander in 1948.

Don boxed professionally in Miami and New York. He joined the Air Force Tiger Program at Augusta, Ga., and Austin, Texas.

He is survived by his son, Tony Deri, and his sister, Claire Lambert. Also his longtime companions, Edith Deri and Renee Lawrence, along with many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be private.
