Donald E. Clark

Donald E. Clark, 62, of Lamoine passed away on Jan. 7 at his home with his wife and daughters by his side after a long, courageous fight with cancer. He was born in Bar Harbor on Veterans Day 1957. He was one of five children born to Donald A. Clark and Grace (Watson) Clark. He attended Lamoine Grammar School and Ellsworth High School, from which he received his GED, and then enlisted in U.S. Navy at the age of 17. During his lifetime, he worked in the building trades and as a cook in both Maine and Florida. For the last 17 years, he worked as a cable technician for Time Warner and Charter Communications.

He loved riding his Harleys and going on family camping trips, where he made many special friends and enjoyed listening to the live music. He will always be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor, amazing cooking skills and his loving, giving spirit. “In a world where you can be anything, be kind.” Don lived a life of thoughtfulness and love. He dedicated his life to helping others. He and his wife organized many fundraisers for those in need. Among these events are a free community thanksgiving dinner, holiday food baskets, a Secret Santa program, a Christmas in July event that benefited the Toys for Tots program and countless others. Don was recognized for these efforts with numerous awards, including the honor of 2017 Ellsworth Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year. His example has inspired many others to lend a helping hand, even people who never had the pleasure of meeting him. He was truly one of a kind. He was also a member of the Red Knights MC Chapter3 and The Ellsworth Elks Lodge No. 2743.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Mona (Merchant) Clark; his two daughters, Heather and her husband, Lucas Leathers, of Eastbrook and Lisa and her husband, Bo Jordan, of Lamoine; grandson Kameron Leathers of Eastbrook; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by both of his parents, grandmothers Sadie (Frost) Morang and Mary (Sargent) Russell, grandfathers Russell Clark and George Watson.

A memorial service will be held on Jan. 19, 2020, at 1 p.m. at the Ellsworth Elks Lodge No. 2743, 317 High St., Ellsworth, ME 04605.
