BAR HARBOR — Derek James Pelletier, 26, died March 13, 2016, in a tragic car accident. He was born March 19, 1989, in Bar Harbor, the son of Craig and Wendy (Walls) Pelletier and big brother to Amber Pelletier. Derek worked at Little A’s and Edenbrook Motel in Bar Harbor.
Derek graduated from MDI High School in 2007. For the first nine months of his life, his grandmother “Mammie” Walls took care of him, and they shared a special bond that he cherished more than anything. From an early age Derek was a “gamer.” He and his cousin Raife would sit for hours playing video games. Derek wasn’t competitive in nature but loved the challenge of beating a game. His passion for music of all genres and an acoustic guitar was all he needed to teach himself how to play. Many nights we would sit quietly by, unnoticed, listening to him strumming away. He was a talented artist who loved to draw. Derek was a gentle soul with a quick sense of humor that could bring a smile to anyone’s face. Derek had a heart of gold and his family and friends meant everything to him. He had a special way with animals and will be sadly missed by his dog Kaliah and cat Sapphire.
He is survived by his parents, Craig and Wendy Pelletier of Trenton; his sister Amber Pelletier of Harrington; maternal grandmother Jeri “Mammie” Walls of Bar Harbor; uncles and aunts, Bruce and Cindy Walls, of Otter Creek; Tom and Dawna Burton of Bar Harbor; Brenda and Roney Williams of Florida; Debbie Rochon and partner Mike Silva of Seal Harbor; Brent Walls of Otter Creek; Elmer Pelletier, Christy Miller of Eddington; Polly Walls of Surry; Mark Pelletier and partner Brenda Boynton of Lamoine; cousins Whitney, Taylor, and Ben Walls; Brooke, Tommy and Abbie Burton; Brandon and Brianna Williams; special cousin and best friend Raife and Emily Rochon; Cody Seavey, Jacob Walls, Kneka Smith, Darius, Megan and Beau Pelletier; Mark and Jordan Pelletier. Derek also leaves behind special friends Tara Gould, Chris Fernald, Dustin Black and Ryan McLeod and many other childhood friends. Derek was predeceased by grandparents, “Doda” Milton “Putt” Walls, Elmer and Maude Pelletier and cousin Riley Williams.
There will be a celebration of Derek’s life at the Ellsworth Elks Lodge, 317 High St. on March 26, 2016, at 2 p.m.
