MORRISTOWN, N.J. — Dee Sadauskas died peacefully on June 11, 2017, under the careful watch of Genevieve and the other caregivers at Care One in Morristown, N.J. Dee was born Dolores Nettie Starr in Budd Lake in 1943, the only child to Asher and Rose Starr. She married James Francis “Joe” Collins and had one son, Darron. In 1978, she married Mike Sadauskas of Randolph, N.J., and shared her remaining 39 years with him.
Dee loved the woods and was most at home walking in them. She was happiest in the woods if accompanied by a dog, preferably off the leash. The dogs she owned, most especially two Alaskan Malamutes, Jamie and later Dimitri, tended toward wildness and so her forays into the various wooded areas of Morris County often ended with searches. Dee loved words and wrote volumes of poems and letters in a script that became increasingly difficult to read, but no less meaningful. But being a mother was her greatest joy, even beyond woods and words.
Dee is survived by her husband, Mike, her son Darron Collins and daughter-in-law Karen Collins, and her two granddaughters, who she adored, Maggie and Molly Collins. There will be no formal services, but her ashes will be spread on Mount Desert Island, a place she thought the most beautiful on Earth.
