North Huntingdon, Pa.
Debra Loretta Jellison McCormick, 65, of North Huntingdon, Pa., passed away peacefully at home April 1, 2019, after a long battle with cancer. She was born Sept. 4, 1953, in Bar Harbor, the second daughter of Jeremiah Wooster and Constance Hanscom Jellison.
Debbie, as she liked to be called, graduated with honors and as a member of Dirigo Girls State in 1971 from MDI High School. She continued her studies at Beal Business College and upon graduating with honors, she went to work at the family business, Jellisons 5 & 10 in Bar Harbor, as the bookkeeper. Her degree in accounting and an uncanny knack with numbers then led her on a career as a CPA all across the country, culminating in the position of head finance director for Mid Coast Electric Corp. in San Antonio, Texas. While there she referred to her co-workers as my Midcoast family. Upon her retirement, Debbie moved to Pennsylvania to be close to her family, which had grown to include great-grandchildren. During her last years she enjoyed them and the rural Pennsylvania countryside, which reminded her of her Maine childhood. Birds, especially cardinals, her favorite, were abundant in Pennsylvania. She always praised her mother for instilling the love of birds and nature in her and fittingly gave her the handle of Bird Lady back in CB days.
Debbie is survived by her husband, Marvin Lee McCormick, daughters Jessica (William) Julian of Irwin and Kristin (Ayodele) Aina of West Homestead. Brothers Jeremiah Jellison of Melbourne, Fla., and John Jellison of Bar Harbor, sister Dawn (John) Taylor of Bartow, Fla., grandchildren Kira and Cheyenne Julian, Maverick Beech, Darryl and Ian Trinkala, and Tobias and Sophia Aina, great-grandchildren Liam, Lilianna and Layla Sanders, nieces, Jennifer, Emily and Megan and nephews, Jack, Zachary and Ben. She was predeceased by her parents, sister and brother-in-law Dot and Monk Blomquist and a grand-nephew, Noah Matteson.
Arrangements are by the Gilbert Funeral Home Inc., 1638 Lincoln Way, White Oak, Pa., (412) 672-6322.
