Charlie was born Sept. 3, 1933, in Bar Harbor, the son of William and Elizabeth Alley.
He graduated from Bar Harbor High School in 1951. Charles joined the Army in 1953 and was a tech 5 in the Korean War.
He then returned home to attend the University of Maine, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education in 1963.
He returned to the island and worked a variety of jobs throughout his lifetime including teaching school, landscaping, and in his later years, working for his good friend Jack Walls at Butterfields store doing various duties.
Charles is survived by three sons, Chuck and his wife, Denise, Peter and his wife, Lisa, and Tim and his wife, Anne; his brothers Mike and his wife, Marcia, Norman and his wife, Loretta, of Tampa, Fla., sister Catherine Sawyer of Trenton, and grandchildren Lindsey, Trevor, Jesse, Bryce, Mary, Lilly, Tony, Katie, Will and Brady; great-grandson Mason and special nieces Lori and Toby.
Charlie was predeceased by his brother, Richard, and his son and daughter, Rick and Debbie, and Debbie’s daughter, Jennifer, and also by his grandson, Blaine Thomas Alley.
A service for family and friends will be held this summer.
