Catherine (Kay) Beulah Lunt Poor

Catherine (Kay) Beulah Lunt Poor passed away on April 22, 2022, at home with her loving family by her side.

She was born on Feb. 27, 1921, on Frenchboro, to John and Eva Lunt. Catherine was the eighth of 15 children. She graduated from Bar Harbor High School in 1942.

She married Merrill Poor in Camden on Feb. 2, 1944. Together they had three daughters.

Catherine and Merrill enjoyed living in various lighthouses during Merrill’s Coast Guard career. Her oldest daughter, Joanne, was born while stationed at Ram Island Lighthouse in East Boothbay. From there they moved to Cuckolds Lighthouse at Cape Newagen on Southport Island, finally settling at Browns Head Lighthouse on Vinalhaven Island. While there at the lighthouse, they had Priscilla, and then Nancy later, after retiring.

For 50 years she worked for the Lewis and Campbell families, enjoying being like part of the family, where she watched the kids grow and raise families of their own.

She was a member of the Vinalhaven American Legion Auxiliary, Eastern Star and Extension. She was also a lifelong member of the Frenchboro Church.

Her life’s passion was knitting and cooking. She was most known for her fish chowder, chocolate chip cookies and her homemade macaroni and cheese at every family event.

She is survived by her three daughters, Joanne Jones and husband, John, of Vinalhaven, Priscilla Poor of Warren and Nancy Wooster and husband, David, of Warren; three grandchildren, Darren Jones and wife, Gina, of Vinalhaven, Catherine (Cate) Wooster and companion Chris Bennett of Warren and Kristie Jones of Vinalhaven; seven great-grandchildren, Ashley Wooster and companion Shane Sykes, Hayden Jones and companion Shelby Smith, Abby Harris Cox and wife, Bailee Cox, MaKenzie Young, Madison Young, Von Jones and Gianna Jones; and one great-great-grandson, Seth VanDyke.

She was predeceased by her husband, parents and all her siblings.

Funeral services will be Saturday, May 7, at 10:30 a.m. at Church of the Nazarene in North Waldoboro. Pastor Mark Holden will be officiating. A committal will be held in July on her beloved island of Vinalhaven at Browns Head Cemetery.

Special thanks to Maine Health Care at Home, Val, R.N., Rachel and Amber, her very dear friend and caregiver Lisa Martin and her granddaughters Cate, Ashley and Abby for her special care at the end.

Know when to pay your respects.
