Carolyn Louise (Alley) Coombs

Carolyn Louise (Alley) Coombs, 90, passed away on September 17, 2017 in Mannford, Okla. She was born in Bar Harbor, May 6, 1927, the daughter of Edson and Thelma (Thompson) Alley. Carolyn was a graduate of Bar Harbor High School, Class of 1942 and a member of the First Congregational Church of Bar Harbor.

After graduating from high school, she married John “Dana” Coombs of Town Hill. The military moved them around the world and once they retired, they spent the rest of their lives crossing the country together. The couple volunteered at national parks throughout the year and in the summer, made their annual pilgrimage back to the Island. Carolyn connected points on the map with long, hand-written letters, extended family members and random bursts into song.

Carolyn loved music and was singing and tapping out tunes right up to her death.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Dana; and brother and sister-in law, Lee H. and Barbara S. Alley. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, John E. and Bobbi Coombs, of San Antonio, Texas; son, Frank T. Coombs, of Las Vegas, Nev.; daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth A. and David Sewell, of Cleveland, Okla.; daughter, Susan Alliene Coombs, of Spokane, Wash.; nephews Daniel, Brian and David Alley; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Interment will be in the spring at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan, Boulder City, Nev.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Jesup Memorial Library 34 Mt. Desert Street, Bar Harbor, ME 04609.
