BAR HARBOR — Betty Reed, 85, died peacefully in her bed, surrounded by family and friends, on April 30, 2015. She was born in Freeland, Pa., on Jan. 23, 1930, the eldest child of Walter and Margaret Reinsmith.
In April 1998, she moved from upstate New York to Bar Harbor, to be closer to family, and to enjoy hiking and photographing the beauty of MDI and Acadia National Park. She loved crafting and animals — especially her cats — and the many creatures that featured in her photos. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bar Harbor.
Betty is survived by three daughters, Deborah Smith, Cape May, N.J., Sharon Agin, Rio Grande, N.J., and Bonnie Moretto, Lamoine; nine grandchildren, including Kimberly Lane, Crystal Follette, Joseph Moretto and Mario Moretto; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her mother and father, as well as her younger brother, Jack Reinsmith, who teased her ceaselessly in the brief time they shared together, and who died serving his country in Korea.
A celebration of Betty’s life will be held locally on June 27. In lieu of flowers, Betty would have liked donations made in her memory to the Ark Animal Shelter in Cherryfield.
Arrangements were made by Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home in Ellsworth.
