Alan Raymond Brown of Ellsworth passed away unexpectedly at the age of 51 on Oct. 16, 2020, at a family camp on Green Lake.
He was born on June 10, 1969, in Ellsworth and grew up in Hancock. He was the son of Margaret Ann Reed Brown and Chester Edwin Brown Jr. He graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1987.
After graduation, Alan earned his associate degree in legal technology from the University of Maine. He attended the Maine Criminal Justice Academy and was hired as a part-time police officer at the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department in 1988. In 1989, he became a full-time patrol deputy for Hancock County and served as a D.A.R.E. officer for many years. He was promoted to detective sergeant in 2001 and also served as a MCJA firearms instructor. In June of 2015, Alan became chief of the Southwest Harbor Police Department until the present day.
He married the love of his life, Stacie Marie Todd, in 1995. They celebrated their 25th anniversary this year in June. He is survived by his wife, Stacie Brown; son Justin Brown; and beloved dog Ziva; sister Cindy Crowley and husband, Bruce; brother Scott Brown and wife, Kathy; mother-in-law and father-in-law Diane and Jim E. Todd; brother-in-law Jim D. Todd and wife, Kim; stepmother Patty Paganucci; several nieces, nephews and cousins; his close friends Corey Bagley and wife Stacey, Ed “Al” Montague and wife, Jen. Alan, Corey and Al were known as the “three musketeers” since grade school. He was predeceased by his parents, Margaret and Edwin Brown.
