Colene Sharkey

Colene E. Sharkey, 89, most recently of Lamoine and formerly of Lititz, Pa., passed away in her home Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017, with her eldest granddaughter Jessy by her side. Colene was born on Dec. 16, 1927, in Limestone, to Burt G. and Roseanna Wright.

Colene was predeceased by her husband, Robert G. Sharkey, her son Robert W. Sharkey, her brothers James and Robert Wright and sisters Mildred Beaulieu and Patricia Libby. She is survived by her loving granddaughters Jessica and Jaimie Sharkey, great-granddaughter Genesis Sharkey, her Irish setter Mollie, many nieces and nephews and special sister-in-law Betty Wright of Caribou.

In her earlier years, Colene worked for the Social Security Administration in Pennsylvania. After she and her husband, Bob, moved to Lamoine and built their retirement home, she became a property assessor to stay active in the community during her retirement years.

In Colene’s later years, she enjoyed socializing and participating in many activities with her son and their many friends at the Senior Center in Ellsworth. She also enjoyed attending Native American activities such as flute circles and powwows with her son, granddaughter and great-granddaughter. Colene was a good friend to many, always willing to help out with any project. Arts and crafts from ceramics to knitting to making beautiful Christmas ornaments for family and friends was another activity she enjoyed doing.

Memorial services and internment will be held at a later date in Limestone, where she will be laid to rest with her husband, Bob, and her son, Bob.

For those desiring to make a donation in her name, Colene would be pleased to know that you did so to an animal shelter of your choice.

Know when to pay your respects.
