AUGUSTA — The National Marine Fisheries Service will launch in March a voluntary survey to gather information on the expenses of commercial fishing vessel owners from Maine to North Carolina. The survey covers the 2022 calendar year and will be sent to vessel owners with active federal permits.
The last survey was conducted in 2016, according to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Fisheries, which notes that the results will help inform fishing regulations and policies and their effects on commercial fishing businesses and communities, track trends in business costs and evaluate the economic performance and better understand profitability of fishing fleets. It will also be used to expand a new cost survey data visualization tool vessel owners can use for business planning. All responses are confidential.
