BAR HARBOR — The YWCA of Mount Desert Island membership elected a slate of officers and completed other business at its annual meeting on April 18. President Elissa Laplant and Vice President Jennifer Harry Bodge are new to the roles, replacing Theresa Hodgdon and Allie Nolan Bodge respectively. Martha Abbott continues as secretary, and Annette Higgins remains treasurer.
In other business, members voted to accept revised bylaws, the executive director reported on the activities of the organization in 2014, and the many volunteers who organized and participated in many of the events and programs were honored.
This was the first official meeting held in the Gym Events Room since the installation of an ADA-compliant ramp at the entrance, phase one of a four-phase project to make the building handicapped accessible. Phase two includes the installation of an elevator, estimated to cost between $175,000 and $190,000. Currently, about 25 percent of that goal has been raised, with thanks to a “friend of the YWCA” and a local grant. Additional funds will continue to be solicited through fundraising events and appeals.
