Yankee welcomed to Swans

Welcome to our newest canine islander, Yankee. Coming from the Maine Greyhound Placement in Augusta, Yankee has found his forever home with Donnie and Marsha Douty Carlson. Yankee is one lucky pup!

Dr. Rick DuBois informed us: “Hello everyone! I will be on the island Saturday, Dec. 10, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to offer veterinary exams and services. Since some of you may need to get your dogs licensed, I will be giving rabies vaccinations ($15 for dogs, $25 for cats) without an exam. If your pet has any special needs, please give the Dexter office a call (924-3462) so I can be sure to have what you want along with me. For those of you that I won’t see, I would like to wish you and your loved ones all the best this holiday season.”

Jeanne Hoyle invites everyone to the church service and the potluck and Yankee swap following the service on Sunday, Dec. 11, at the Swans Island Baptist Church. Please bring a dish to share for the potluck and a gift for the Yankee swap; it is helpful if the wrapped gift is marked for male, female, adult, child.

Don’t miss the spaghetti dinner and auction on Thursday, Dec. 8, at the Swans Island School. The dinner begins at 5 p.m., and the auction commences at 6 p.m. All proceeds help pay for the eighth-grade class trip.

Dexter Lee reported that an assembly of local veterans and school children will meet this Friday, Dec. 9, at 9 a.m. in the school gymnasium in anticipation of the laying of wreaths with Wreaths Across America. The students will assemble wreaths, and the laying of them will take place on Saturday, Dec. 10.

Fran Chetwynd asks us to support our local lighthouse when shopping this season: “Check out the FOSIL FaceBook page for some information on projects for 2017. And, if you are shopping on Amazon this holiday season, please consider using Amazon Smile and designating Friends of the Swans Island Lighthouse as your favored nonprofit. Amazon will make a contribution for each purchase.”

Happy birthday to Nancy Burns, Marsha Douty Carlson and Thomas Riedel.
