Women’s health question-and-answer session coming up



BAR HARBOR — Physician Assistant Jane Tawney and other women’s health experts will speak at a lunchtime question-and-answer session at the YWCA of Mount Desert Island on Friday, May 13, at noon as part of National Women’s Health Week.

The public is invited to bring a lunch and questions to ask the staff of the Lisa Stewart Women’s Health Center and MDI Hospital. The YWCA will provide dessert and drinks for this free event.

According to the National Institutes of Health, “Women have unique health issues. And some of the health issues that affect both men and women can affect women differently. For example, women are more likely to die following a heart attack and to show signs of depression and anxiety. Women are more likely to have urinary tract problems and osteoarthritis. The effects of sexually transmitted diseases can be more serious in women.
