What’s in a name?

Dexter Lee, Swan’s Island Historical Society chairman, will present a talk on “Swan’s Island place names, past and present” at the Swan’s Island Library on Monday, July 6, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. He will identify the popular names over the years for coves, corners, beaches and landmarks around the island. Some have changed names over the years, but he will give all names he is familiar with for each place. There will be a map on the screen so he can point out such places as Lover’s Lane, Ghost Hollow, Dead Man’s Beach, Spirit Cove and others.

A “meet and greet” for Deputy Sheriff Rob Morang and his family will be held at the library on Friday, July 3, from 6:30-8 p.m or so. Come welcome our new deputy sheriff and his family to our community.
