Deputy Sheriff Rob Morang informs us: “I have a Hunter’s Safety and Archery Course scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, April 23 and 24. It will be held on Swans Island during those days, and that will complete the courses. The archery portion will be just part of Sunday; if you only want to attend the archery portion, I would suggest making yourself available for most of the day Sunday. The course will likely be going into Saturday evening. The course starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 23. There is no charge for this course. If you are interested, please comment or send me a message on FaceBook or call the Sheriff’s Office at 667-7575. I will have further details available soon.”
We thank Jane Savage for sharing a Ferry Service Wi-Fi Public Access Notice with us, and in return, we promise not to shoot the messenger. “The State’s Public Wi Fi and the terminal’s operating equipment are all on one system. As we are experiencing speed issues because of limited band width, please use the Wi Fi sparingly when waiting in line. Downloading videos, movies and watching them can greatly affect available space on the system. There are times when our agents cannot get on the ticket program to sell tickets, take credit cards or access charges. If this problem continues, we may be losing the public Wi Fi.”
Jennifer Turner points us toward an article that describes the work Peter Petraitis, Steve Dudgeon, their team, and Erika Rhile and her students have been performing on Swans Island every spring and summer for nearly two decades. Learn more about their research by reading “Ecologists Test Stability of Maine Ecosystem over Two Decades,” a Feb. 22, article from National Science Foundation’s “Science Nation” online magazine.
