Weather reprieve makes travel easy

Marja and Tor Goettsche-Spurling came out to Islesford for a brief visit this past weekend. They spent Friday night with Christine Spurling and Andrew Trepanier in Bernard on Friday. It’s good to live close enough to the islands that weekend visits are feasible.

Barb and Bruce Fernald went to Bridgton to visit Fritz Fernald and Anne Townsend on Jan. 12. They were joined by the Baltimore branch of the family, Stephanie Austin and Robin Fernald, and their 13-month-old son, Henry Austin Fernald. Barb said it was a quick weekend, but they celebrated Fritz and Robin’s 35th birthday, which was Jan. 11. Henry entertains well and sleeps in the Pack and Play Barb and Bruce took.

Aaron Kimball, Johnny Palmer, Malcolm Fernald and Mary E. Schuch shoveled the snow off the frog pond, sometimes known as the Islesford gravel pit on Jan 11. Next on the request list was rain and colder temperatures for what Kaitlyn Duggan described as “a superb ice skating pond.”

Marina Pickering, Elliott Damon Hadlock and Bode Duggan spent Thursday morning at the Islesford Library. They made horse pictures in connection to the story “Winter’s Gift,” by Jane Monroe Donovan.

Adults no longer need to be jealous of the weekly group time the kids get at the library. Cindy Thomas has resumed the Tuesday morning coffee at the library. David Thomas, Paul Fernald and Serena Spurling were among the banana cake consumers.

The heat wave came and went. Saturday at 9 a.m. was 50 degrees; at 9 p.m., back to 20 degrees. Sunday’s forecast highs were in double-digits, so it wasn’t quite like a week ago. The warm weather and rain this past week cleared off cars in the Northeast Harbor parking lot.

Ashley Bryan and Nikki Giovanni have put out another joint book, “I Am Loved.” It includes a dozen of Nikki’s poems, illustrated by Ashley. Congratulations!

There will be an open mic night at the Islesford Neighborhood House on Friday, Jan. 26, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. It will include poems, songs, improv, performance – Skits, Wits & Bits. Kaitlyn Duggan is the mastermind with further information.

Kate O’Donovan’s birthday is Jan. 18; Johnny Palmer will blow out candles on Jan. 23. Happy birthday to Gary Allen on Jan. 29 and Eileen Richards on Jan. 31. February birthdays begin with Terry Savage on Feb. 2, followed by Gretchen Westphal and Bowden Magee Parcari on Feb. 5.
