University Extension’s Eat Well program seeks volunteers



ELLSWORTH — The University of Maine Cooperative Extension is seeking volunteers for its Eat Well program in Hancock County. Fifteen hours of hands-on training are scheduled from 1-4 p.m. on Thursdays, Nov. 5, 12 and 19 and Dec. 3 and 10 at the extension office, 63 Boggy Brook Road.

Participants will be trained to teach others about food preparation, safety and nutrition. After completing the training, volunteers will provide 30 hours of community service teaching clients at a local food pantry or community meal site. The extension will provide the lesson plans and materials to use at the sites. Volunteer community outreach will occur weekly from January through April 2016.

The training fee is $60; limited financial assistance and payment plans are available. The deadline to apply is Friday, Oct. 30.
